4 Tips to Staying Safe in the Sun

4 Tips to Staying Safe in the Sun

TIP 1: Wear protective clothing

Hats with wide brims not only cover your face, but they also protect other easy-to-forget spots like your ears and your scalp.

TIP 2: Make sunglasses your favorite accessory

Sunglasses shield your eyes from UV rays that can cause eye problems. They also protect the tender skin around your eyes from sun exposure.

TIP 3: Limit your sun time & Say no to tanning!

Too much sun can cause wrinkles, freckles, age spots and even blotchy skin. Try to avoid the sun from the hours of 10:00 am- 4:00 pm.

TIP 4: SPF is your best friend!

Put on broad spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays and has an SPF of 30 or higher before you go outside. Don’t forget to put a thick layer on all exposed skin.

UV rays can damage your skin in as little as 15 minutes. Use a daily sunscreen that contains a broad spectrum SPF of at least 30, preferably higher.

You need to reapply sunscreen every two hours, and don't forget to put it on your hands and feet and to reapply after swimming or sweating.
