How to Use

Step 1: Before first use, prime the pump: with the cap on, tap the bottle upside down 4 to 5 times, then pump 10 to 15 times.
Step 2: In the evening, cleanse and dry the skin.
Step 3: Gently apply 1 pump to the desired areas on the face.
Step 4: Begin using two to three evenings per week, and increase gradually until tolerated nightly.
Step 5: Follow with moisturizer, and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning.

Caution: Avoid getting in the eyes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Retinol may increase sun sensitivity. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or recovering from a procedure, consult your healthcare provider before use.

Should I use 0.25 or 0.5?

Alastin recommends starting with 0.25 if you are new to retinol or have sensitive skin. Once you tolerate it nightly, you can move up to Renewal Retinol 0.5. If you have used retinol before without trouble, you can usually start at 0.5. Our providers are happy to help you decide.

How do I start using it?

Apply one pump to the face in the evening two to three times a week, then increase gradually until you are using it nightly. A little dryness or flaking in the first few weeks is normal; space out applications if your skin feels irritated.

Is the formula different from the 0.5?

Only in retinol strength. Both use the same supporting ingredients, including niacinamide, ceramide NP, CoQ10, oat extract and silver mushroom. The two ingredient lists differ only in the order of two pairs of ingredients.

Can I use retinol if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

Retinoids are generally not recommended during pregnancy, and Alastin advises consulting your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or after a procedure. We'd recommend pausing use until you have talked with your OB-GYN or dermatologist.

What can I pair it with?

Alastin says it combines well with hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and a TriHex regimen. To reduce the chance of irritation, avoid layering it in the same routine with strong exfoliating acids or other retinoids, and always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen in the morning.

How long does a bottle last?

About 4.5 months at one pump nightly, according to Alastin. Before first use, prime the airless pump: with the cap on, tap the bottle upside down 4 to 5 times, then pump 10 to 15 times until product appears.
