A fragrance-free petrolatum skin protectant that melts on contact to seal in moisture and protect dry, compromised and post-procedure skin.
Product Info
EltaMD Laser Balm – A fragrance-free petrolatum skin protectant that melts on contact to seal in moisture and protect dry, compromised skin, including skin recovering from a professional procedure when your provider recommends it.
  • Petrolatum 60%, the balm's skin-protectant active, forms an occlusive layer that helps dry, damaged skin hold on to its natural moisture
  • EltaMD designed it for procedure care, to keep compromised skin moist and help prevent crusting, used as your provider directs
  • Temporarily protects and helps relieve chapped or cracked skin or lips, and temporarily protects minor cuts, scrapes and burns
  • Melts on skin contact for easy, even application over tender areas of the face and body
  • Just three ingredients, with no fragrance, dyes, parabens or preservatives, and noncomedogenic according to EltaMD
Who benefits? Clients whose provider recommends an occlusive balm after laser or other professional treatments, and anyone with very dry, chapped or cracked skin or lips that needs a simple protective barrier.
How to Use

Step 1: Cleanse gently as directed by your provider, for example with EltaMD Skin Recovery Amino Acid Foaming Cleanser, and leave the skin slightly damp.
Step 2: Apply Laser Balm liberally to moist skin, avoiding the eye area.
Step 3: Reapply as needed or as directed by your physician or provider.
Step 4: For chapped or cracked skin or lips, apply a layer as needed throughout the day.
Step 5: Keep treated skin out of the sun, and use a mineral sunscreen once your provider clears it.

Caution: For external use only. Do not use on damaged or broken skin. When using this product do not get into eyes. Stop use and ask a physician if condition worsens, or if symptoms last more than 7 days or clear up and occur again within a few days. Keep out of reach of children. After professional treatments, follow your provider's aftercare instructions.

EltaMD designed it to keep compromised skin moist and help prevent crusting, used as your provider directs.

Petrolatum 60% + Protective Waxes

Key Ingredients

Skin Protectant
Petrolatum 60%

Skin Protectant

The balm's active ingredient. Petrolatum is one of the most widely used over-the-counter skin protectants: it sits on the surface and forms an occlusive barrier that slows water loss, so dry, damaged skin can hold on to its own moisture while it is shielded from friction and the air.

Microcrystalline Wax
Body & Staying Power

Microcrystalline Wax

A refined, flexible wax that gives the balm its body and helps the protective film stay put on the skin, so the seal lasts between applications instead of rubbing straight off.

Paraffin
Melt-On Texture

Paraffin

Paraffin works with the petrolatum and microcrystalline wax to make a balm that holds its shape in the jar and softens on contact with warm skin, so it spreads easily over tender areas without rubbing.

How is Laser Balm different from a regular moisturizer?

A moisturizer adds water and conditioning ingredients and absorbs into the skin. Laser Balm is a skin protectant: its 60% petrolatum stays on the surface as an occlusive seal that keeps your skin's own moisture in and shields it from friction and air. That's why it suits skin that is too tender for a full routine. Once your skin has settled, a lighter moisturizer such as EltaMD Skin Recovery Light Moisturizer usually takes over.

Can I use it right after laser or another procedure?

Only as your provider directs. EltaMD designed Laser Balm for procedure care, to keep compromised skin moist and help prevent crusting, but its Drug Facts label also warns against use on damaged or broken skin. Your provider's aftercare instructions decide when, where and how often to apply it, so follow those first and ask us if you're unsure.

Will it clog my pores?

EltaMD lists Laser Balm as noncomedogenic. It is a heavy occlusive, though, so if you're acne-prone, apply it only where your skin needs protection and only for as long as it needs it.

Is it OK for sensitive skin?

Yes. It has just three ingredients, petrolatum, microcrystalline wax and paraffin, with no fragrance, dyes, parabens or preservatives, which makes it one of the simplest formulas we carry. Stop use and ask a physician if your skin worsens or symptoms last more than 7 days.

Can I use it on my lips or other dry patches?

Yes. The label says it temporarily protects and helps relieve chapped or cracked skin or lips and temporarily protects minor cuts, scrapes and burns, so it doubles as an everyday rescue balm for chapped lips, cracked knuckles, heels and cuticles. Keep it away from the eyes.

How long does a jar last?

The 3.8 oz jar is generous. Used on the face during a typical recovery period it goes a long way, and as an everyday balm for lips and dry patches it usually lasts several months. The formula has no preservatives, so scoop it out with clean, dry fingers or a spatula and keep the lid closed.
