How to Use

Step 1: Apply liberally to the face 15 minutes before sun exposure, as the last step of your morning routine.
Step 2: Reapply at least every 2 hours.
Step 3: Use a water-resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating.
Step 4: Sun Protection Measures: Spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. To decrease this risk, regularly use a sunscreen with a Broad Spectrum SPF value of 15 or higher and other sun protection measures including: limit time in the sun, especially from 10 a.m.–2 p.m.; wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, hats and sunglasses.
Step 5: Children under 6 months of age: ask a doctor.

Caution: For external use only. Do not use on damaged or broken skin. When using this product, keep out of eyes; rinse with water to remove. Stop use and ask a doctor if a rash occurs. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away. Protect this product from excessive heat and direct sun.

Can I use it after a facial, peel or laser treatment?

Obagi formulated it for use after non-ablative cosmetic procedures, and it's the sunscreen we often recommend once you're cleared to wear SPF. The Drug Facts label says not to use it on damaged or broken skin, so wait until any open, raw or crusted areas have closed, and always follow your provider's post-treatment instructions.

Is it tinted, and will it leave a white cast?

It's untinted. Like most zinc oxide sunscreens, it can look slightly white on application before it blends in, which is more noticeable on deeper skin tones. If you'd rather have a tint, the Sun Shield Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 50 comes in Warm and Cool.

Is it water resistant?

No. Reapply at least every 2 hours, and use a water-resistant sunscreen if you'll be swimming or sweating, as the Drug Facts label directs.

Is it OK for acne-prone or sensitive skin?

Yes. Obagi describes it as non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, non-irritating and dermatologist tested, with no fragrance, dyes or parabens, and zinc oxide is the only active. Stop use and ask a doctor if a rash occurs.

Where does it go in my routine?

It's the last skincare step every morning, after serum and moisturizer and before makeup. Apply it liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure, then reapply at least every 2 hours while you're outdoors.

How long does a tube last?

Applied liberally to the face once a day, a 1.7 fl oz (50 mL) tube lasts roughly six weeks; reapplying through the day uses it faster. If a tube lasts much longer than that, you're probably not using enough to get the labeled SPF.
