How to Use

Step 1: Wet the face with warm water.
Step 2: Massage a small amount onto the wet face in gentle circles, avoiding the eye area.
Step 3: Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.
Step 4: In the morning, follow with a SkinCeuticals vitamin C serum and a broad-spectrum sunscreen. In the evening, follow with a corrective product or moisturizer.
Step 5: Use twice daily, or once daily if your skin feels dry or tingly.

Caution: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Not recommended for sensitive skin. Discontinue use if irritation occurs. Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase sensitivity to the sun and the possibility of sunburn: use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterward.

How is this different from Purifying Cleanser?

Both are SkinCeuticals glycolic gel cleansers. Glycolic Renewal Cleanser is the more active of the two, with an 8% glycolic acid free acid value plus 1% phytic acid, aimed squarely at dullness and rough texture. Purifying Cleanser with Glycolic Acid uses about 3% combined glycolic acid and glycerin in a fragrance-free, sulfate-free gel, a milder everyday option that also suits drier skin.

Can I use it if I have sensitive skin?

SkinCeuticals doesn't recommend it for sensitive skin. The acids can tingle, and the formula contains an aromatic Cymbopogon oil and citral, a common fragrance allergen. If your skin is reactive or red, choose SkinCeuticals Soothing Cleanser or Gentle Cleanser instead.

Can I use it with retinol?

Yes. SkinCeuticals says it can be used alongside retinol. If you're new to retinol, start it once or twice a week and build up gradually, and watch for dryness or irritation when pairing it with an exfoliating cleanser. Retinol and glycolic acid both increase sun sensitivity, so wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

SkinCeuticals says it may be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but recommends checking with your physician first. If you're unsure, bring the tube to your next appointment so your provider can review the ingredients with you.

Where does it fit in my routine?

It's your first step, morning and night. In the morning, follow with a vitamin C serum such as C E Ferulic and a broad-spectrum sunscreen. In the evening, follow with your corrective serum and moisturizer. If you also use a leave-on glycolic or retinol product, you may prefer to use it once a day instead of twice.
