How to Use

Step 1: Moisten skin with warm water.
Step 2: Apply a small amount of cleanser to your fingertips with a little water.
Step 3: Cleanse the entire face using small circular motions, avoiding the eyes.
Step 4: Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.
Step 5: Use morning and evening as the first step in your routine, then follow with the Pore Purifying Acne Treatment, moisturizer and, in the morning, sunscreen.

Is this an acne medication?

No. It is a cosmetic cleanser made with salicylic acid for oily and acne-prone skin, and the tube carries no Drug Facts panel. For active breakouts, pair it with the Pore Purifying Acne Treatment, which is an over-the-counter acne treatment with encapsulated 2% salicylic acid. SkinMedica's clinical results were measured with the two used together.

Will it dry out my skin?

It's designed not to. The gel uses mild, sulfate-free cleansing agents with glycerin and soothing botanicals, and in SkinMedica's study 95% of participants said their skin was not dried out 24 hours after use (n=21). If you also use a retinoid or benzoyl peroxide and notice tightness, use it once a day instead of twice.

How is it different from the other SkinMedica cleansers?

Pore Purifying Gel Cleanser is made for oily and acne-prone skin, built around salicylic acid and bakuchiol. The AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser targets texture and dullness with alpha and beta hydroxy acids plus jojoba beads. Facial Cleanser is the basic non-exfoliating daily wash, and the HA5 Foaming Cleanser is the hydrating option for dry skin.

How soon will I see results?

Can I use it with retinol or prescription acne products?

Usually, yes, since it rinses off. Start slowly and watch for dryness or peeling, because salicylic acid adds to the drying effect of retinoids, benzoyl peroxide and other exfoliants. If you use prescription acne treatments, or if you are pregnant or nursing, check with your prescriber or physician first.

How long does a tube last?
