The PHA option for skin that struggles with AHAs
Gluconolactone is a noticeably larger molecule than glycolic or lactic acid, so it works more gradually at the surface and tends to be better tolerated by skin that flushes easily. It is also a humectant in its own right, which offsets some of the dryness people associate with acid exfoliation. What is the difference between a PHA and an AHA?
Molecule size, mostly. PHAs penetrate more slowly, which makes them milder and slower to show results — a reasonable trade if glycolic acid has been too much for your skin.
