How to Use

Step 1: Finish your morning skincare: cleanse, treat and moisturize.
Step 2: Apply liberally to the face and neck 15 minutes before sun exposure.
Step 3: Let it set for a minute before applying makeup.
Step 4: Reapply at least every 2 hours. Use a water-resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating.
Step 5: Children under 6 months: ask a doctor.

Caution: For external use only. Do not use on damaged or broken skin. When using this product keep out of eyes. Rinse with water to remove. Stop use and ask a doctor if rash occurs. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.

Sun Protection Measures: Spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. To decrease this risk, regularly use a sunscreen with a Broad Spectrum SPF value of 15 or higher and other sun protection measures including: limit time in the sun, especially from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, hats, and sunglasses.

Other information: Store at 15–25°C (59–77°F). Protect this product from excessive heat and direct sun.

Is it a mineral or a chemical sunscreen?

Both. It combines the mineral filter zinc oxide (16.5%) with the chemical filters homosalate (10%) and octisalate (5%). If you want an all-mineral formula, for example for very reactive or post-procedure skin, ask us about Obagi Sun Shield Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 50+.

Will it keep my skin from getting shiny?

It dries down to a matte finish and helps your skin look less shiny, but it doesn’t change how much oil your skin makes. Pair it with an oil-control cleanser, and blot or reapply through the day if you get shiny by afternoon.

Is it okay for breakout-prone skin?

It’s non-comedogenic (formulated not to clog pores) and dermatologist-tested, so it suits most oily and breakout-prone routines. Apply it over your acne treatments in the morning, and stop using it if you notice irritation or a rash.

Is it water resistant?

No. The label does not claim water resistance. Reapply at least every 2 hours, and use a water-resistant sunscreen if you’ll be swimming or sweating.

Will it leave a white cast?

It’s untinted and contains 16.5% zinc oxide, so a slight white cast is possible, especially on deeper skin tones. Massage it in well. If you prefer a tinted option, Obagi Sun Shield Tint comes in Warm and Cool.

How long does a tube last?

Applied generously to the face and neck once a day, a 3 oz tube lasts roughly one to two months. Reapplying through the day, or covering the chest and hands too, uses it faster.
