How to Use

Step 1: Cleanse with a gentle cleanser such as SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser and pat skin dry.
Step 2: Apply any serums and moisturizer first.
Step 3: Apply Hydra Balm liberally to severely dry or compromised areas of the face or body, as often as needed.
Step 4: For very dry hands or feet, apply a light coating in the evening, cover with cotton gloves or socks and leave on overnight.
Step 5: In the morning, finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen on exposed skin.

Caution: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Discontinue use if irritation occurs. After a professional treatment, follow your provider's instructions on when and where to apply, and don't apply to open or broken skin unless your provider directs.

How is Hydra Balm different from a moisturizer like Epidermal Repair?

Hydra Balm is a water-free ointment built on petrolatum, so it sits on top of the skin and seals moisture in. Moisturizers are lighter creams or lotions that absorb into the skin. Epidermal Repair is SkinCeuticals' calming cream for compromised skin and works well all over the face every day. Hydra Balm is the protective layer you add on top, or use alone, wherever skin is severely dry, raw or recovering.

Can I use it after a laser treatment or peel?

SkinCeuticals originally created Hydra Balm to aid post-operative recovery and recommends it for post-procedure and very dry skin. Always follow your provider's post-treatment instructions on when and where to apply it, and don't put it on open or broken skin unless your provider tells you to.

Can I use it on my body, hands and feet?

Yes. Apply it to severely dry areas anywhere on the face or body. For cracked hands or heels, SkinCeuticals suggests a light coating in the evening, covered with cotton gloves or socks and left on overnight.

Is it OK for oily or acne-prone skin?

Use it with care. It's a rich occlusive ointment that isn't labeled non-comedogenic, and it contains isopropyl myristate and isopropyl palmitate, which some breakout-prone skin doesn't tolerate well. If you're acne-prone, spot-treat dry patches or post-procedure areas rather than applying it all over, and ask us which moisturizer suits the rest of your face.

Can I use it every day?

Yes. SkinCeuticals says it can be part of a daily routine, used as often as dry skin needs it. Apply it as the last step at night. During the day, use a thin layer on dry areas only and keep applying broad-spectrum sunscreen to exposed skin, since Hydra Balm has no SPF.

How long does a tube last?

It depends on how much area you cover. Used on dry patches or for a few weeks after a treatment, a 1.7 fl oz tube lasts a couple of months. Used nightly on hands and feet, expect it to go faster.
