How to Use

Step 1: In the evening, cleanse and pat skin completely dry.
Step 2: Dispense a pea-sized amount onto clean fingertips.
Step 3: Apply to the face, avoiding the eye area, and let it absorb before applying other products.
Step 4: Follow with moisturizer.
Step 5: Start once or twice a week, increase to every other night, then use nightly as tolerated.
Step 6: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning.

Caution: For external use only. Retinol may increase sun sensitivity; use sunscreen daily and limit sun exposure. Not recommended if pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Avoid the eye area. Some dryness, flaking or redness is common at first; reduce frequency if it persists and discontinue use if irritation is severe.

How is Retinol 0.3 different from Retinol 0.5 and 1.0?

All three use pure retinol with the same soothing complex, at different strengths. Retinol 0.3 is the starting point for skin new to retinol, Retinol 0.5 is the intermediate step once skin is conditioned, and Retinol 1.0 is the most advanced, for experienced users. SkinCeuticals recommends starting here and moving up as your skin tolerates it.

How often should I use it when I'm starting out?

Begin with one or two evenings a week, then move to every other night, then nightly as tolerated. Pairing it with a barrier-supporting moisturizer such as Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 can help with dryness while your skin adjusts.

Can I use it while pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. As a precaution, SkinCeuticals does not recommend retinol for anyone who is pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Ask your physician or our providers about alternatives for that time.

Will it make my skin more sensitive to the sun?

It can. Retinol may increase sun sensitivity, so use it only at night and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning, including the days you don't apply it.

Where does it go in my routine?

In the evening, after cleansing and any antioxidant serum, followed by your moisturizer. Let it absorb before applying other products and keep it away from the eye area. Don't layer it with other retinoids or strong exfoliating acids on the same night.

When will I see results, and how long does a tube last?

Retinol works gradually. Many people notice smoother texture and clearer-looking pores within the first several weeks, with fine lines and discoloration continuing to improve over a few months of consistent use. You only need a pea-sized amount, so a 30 mL tube typically lasts about three months at nightly use, and longer while you build up.
