Alcohol Denat. in Antioxidant Serums
Few ingredients on a label draw as much suspicion, and few are as widely misread. Alcohol denat. is ethanol made undrinkable, used here as a solvent: it dissolves antioxidants such as ferulic acid, phloretin and resveratrol that will not go into water, and it evaporates on contact so the formula dries down fast and thin instead of tacky.
That is why it clusters in SkinCeuticals' antioxidant range — Phloretin CF, Resveratrol B E, Silymarin CF and Blemish + Age Defense — plus P-TIOX and Obagi's Obagi-C Fx C-Clarifying Serum.
Does alcohol denat. dry out your skin?
In a leave-on formula it flashes off within seconds and does not linger long enough to strip the barrier the way a wipe-off astringent might. If your skin runs dry or reactive, layering a moisturizer over these serums is usually enough to keep things comfortable.
How to shop at ELLEMES
These antioxidant serums degrade with heat and light, which is one more reason to buy them from an authorized retailer rather than a marketplace listing.
