Epigallocatechin gallate — usually shortened to EGCG — is the dominant catechin in green tea leaf extract. Topically it functions as an antioxidant, and it pairs naturally with sunscreen filters because the two address daytime exposure from opposite ends: filters block, antioxidants mop up afterward.
