What Linalool Is Doing in Your Skincare
Linalool is a terpene alcohol found naturally in lavender, bergamot, coriander and rosewood, and formulators use it for scent rather than for any effect on the appearance of skin. Because regulators treat it as one of the fragrance components that must be named on a label, it shows up as its own line item instead of hiding inside the word "fragrance" — which is why it appears on so many otherwise fragrance-light products.
In this collection it turns up across SkinCeuticals in particular: Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2, Phyto Corrective Gel, A.G.E. Interrupter Advanced and Emollience Moisturizer all list it. Revision Skincare's DEJ Daily Boosting Serum and Nutrafol's Women's Shampoo round out the non-SkinCeuticals side.
Should I avoid linalool if I have sensitive skin?
Not automatically. A small share of people react to linalool once it has oxidized, so if lavender-scented products have bothered you in the past, patch test behind the ear for a few days before applying to the whole face.
