How to Use

Step 1: Apply generously to the face and neck 15 minutes before sun exposure, as the last step of your morning skincare routine.
Step 2: Wear it alone for a sheer tint or under makeup.
Step 3: Reapply after 40 minutes of swimming or sweating, immediately after towel drying, and at least every 2 hours.

Sun Protection Measures: Spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. To decrease this risk, regularly use a sunscreen with a broad-spectrum SPF of 15 or higher and other sun protection measures including: limit time in the sun, especially from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; wear long-sleeve shirts, pants, hats and sunglasses. Children under 6 months: ask a doctor.

Caution: For external use only. Do not use on damaged or broken skin. When using this product, keep out of eyes; rinse with water to remove. Stop use and ask a doctor if rash occurs. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.

How is UV Physical different from EltaMD UV Clear?

UV Clear pairs 9% zinc oxide with octinoxate, a chemical filter, and adds niacinamide for acne-prone and rosacea-prone skin; it isn't water resistant. UV Physical uses only mineral actives (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide), carries a light tint and is water resistant for 40 minutes. Choose UV Physical if you want a mineral-only formula or a hint of coverage.

Will it leave a white cast?

Much less than an untinted mineral sunscreen. The sheer tint and transparent zinc oxide finish blend in on most fair to medium skin tones. There is only one light shade, though, so on deeper skin tones it can look slightly ashy, and a deeper tinted formula such as EltaMD UV Daily Deep Tinted may blend better.

Can I use it after a laser treatment or peel?

EltaMD recommends UV Physical for sensitive, rosacea-prone and post-procedure skin, and its fragrance-free mineral formula is a common choice after in-office treatments. The Drug Facts label says not to use it on damaged or broken skin, so wait until your provider confirms your skin is ready for sunscreen, then wear it every day to protect healing skin.

Can I wear it under makeup?

Yes. Apply it as the last step of your skincare routine, let it set for a minute or two, then apply makeup. Many clients find the tint is enough coverage on its own for everyday wear.

Is it water resistant, and how often should I reapply?

Yes, it is water resistant for 40 minutes. Reapply after 40 minutes of swimming or sweating, immediately after towel drying, and at least every 2 hours while you're in the sun.

How long does a 3 oz tube last?

Applied generously to the face and neck once a day, a 3 oz tube typically lasts about two to three months. Reapplying through the day or also covering your chest and hands will use it up faster.
