This is a texture ingredient with a practical side effect. Polyisobutene is a synthetic emollient polymer that thickens a formula and forms a flexible, cohesive layer, which is part of how a sunscreen holds up to humidity and how a treatment serum stays in place under makeup.

Is polyisobutene heavy on the skin?
