Products with Tranexamic Acid

Tranexamic acid is the pigment-focused active behind several of the discoloration treatments we stock at ELLEMES.

A different route to the look of even tone

Most brightening ingredients act on pigment production directly. Tranexamic acid — a synthetic derivative of the amino acid lysine — is thought to work further upstream, on the signaling between skin cells and pigment cells, which is why formulators combine it with ingredients like niacinamide and kojic acid rather than substituting it for them. Five of the lines we carry use it: SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense, SkinBetter Science Even Intensive, Obagi SuzanObagiMD CLARIBRIGHT, SkinMedica Even & Correct and SkinCeuticals Daily Brightening UV Defense SPF 30.

Is tranexamic acid gentle enough for daily use?

Typically yes — it is not an exfoliant and does not sting the way an acid does, so most people tolerate it morning and night. Pairing it with daily SPF matters more here than with almost any other active.

“I recommend Discoloration Defense between chemical peels- this formula targets stubborn types of discoloration but is gentle on my patients’ skin, making it ideal for an at-home regimen between treatments.”
